Reid's mine
Former small underground prospect that operated 1896 to 1910. Historic small copper workings with a shaft to 170 feet.
Note: There is also a Ranken's Reward Mine about three kilmometres to the south. Reference Andrews 1913 p102, p104, p106 lists Hidden Treasure, Rankin Reward and Reid/Ranken as separate locations.
Thomas Reid was one of the original prospectors who along with Michael O'Grady discovered copper/gold at Canbelego. They worked the Hidden Treasure claim near the Canbelego townsite. Hidden Treasure was prospected in 1896 after Reid discovered the location during his initial exploration with O'Grady.
T. Trevenar and Party worked the deposit in 1896-1898.
Reid and Ranken worked the deposit 1900 to 1902. The Rankin is likely Joseph Rankin however could be Hugh Ranken. Reid and Rankin, in April 1910 were given a six month exemption from mining by the warden.
Gold Fields Exploration Pty Ltd, mapped and sampled the deposit in 1986.
