Per Rudy Tschernich: "Zeolites are found in vesicular basalt cliffs in the Miocene Columbia River Basalt Group just east of the bridge crossing the Middle fork of the John Day River east of Ritter Hot Springs. Specimens are difficult to reach due to their being high in the vertical flows. Rock that falls to the edge of the road or that which has been used to dike the river is the source of most specimens".
