A small trial in Long Grain.
Cooper & Stanley (1990):
"Mining in this tributary of Hay Gill was mentioned about the beginning of the eighteenth century by Pratt (MS), the working yielding 'verry fine pieces of oars verry near to the Grass' but clearly not in depth.
Thomas Hillary refers to working at 'Longgrain' and to supplying 'Utensils for Blasting... att West Longrain' in his 'Bargains' book for 1724 (Benson MSS, D/Ben/3116), but in 1726 he was instructed to 'Give Over the Tryall att Long Grane' (Benson MSS, D/Ben/3119).
There is no further mention of the property until the mid-nineteenth century when it formed part of the lease of the Hay Gill sett.
The last investigation was by the East Cumberland Mining Co. in 1867 (Adams, 1988).
The dumps from two trials can still be seen [NY313353; NY311357] but no mineralization of interest has been reported."
