Ordinary Chondrite (L6)
Find,1959; 5 kg
A weathered meteoritic mass was found 4.5 km (2.8 miles) ENE of the city of Temple. Both olivine (Fa23) and orthopyroxene composition are characteristic of the L (low iron) geochemical group. Both troilite and chromite are notably abundant, but kamacite is rather sparse.
The mass was distributed in moderate-sized masses to at least 8 institutions. The largest mass (259.7 g) is apparently at Arizona State University [2016 update].
