The Mammoth was located on the east side of Bonita Creek. The ore occurred as a fissure vein in quartzite, slate, and arkose of the Early Cretaceous Harts Pass Formation. Development consisted of three adits containing 2250' of workings and two stamp mills. It was one of the larger producing mines in the county, having about 30,000 tons of ore produced from around the turn of the century and 1936-1942.
