This mine is one of the former mines in this district which was consolidated into the Royal Mountain King Mine/project. See the Mindat file for that locality.

A former Au-Ag-Cu-Pb mine located in sec. 19, T2N, R12E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) NW of Hodson (site) and 2.9 km (1.8 miles) SSE of Felix, about 5.65 km NW of Copperopolis. The property consists of 13 claims. Operated in the 1890's, 1904, 1930-1942, 1945-1948. Drilled 1955-1956. The mine shut down in July, 1994 due to the depletion of the ore body. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.

Mineralization is a fisure vein deposit hosted in Late Jurassic slate, greenstone and Mariposa Formation schist. The ore body strikes N32W/N40W and dips 30NE/30E at a thickness of 15.24 meters, a width of 152 meters and a length of 1,220 meters. The primary mode of origin was hydrothermal activity. Primary ore control was faulting and secondary control was bedding. Wallrock alteration is intense. This deposit is the northern portion of a mineralized area along the Hodson fault zone. The total mineralized area is estimated to be at least 4,000 feet long and as much as 500 feet wide. The main Mountain King vein system consists of quartz veins and stringers and strikes N32W and dips 30NE. It ranges from 5 to 50 feet in thickness. Amphibolite schist and greenstone form the hanging wall and Mariposa slate forms the footwall. Numerous quartz stringers cut the hanging wall with shoots of "gray ore" consisting of mineralized amphibolite and greenstone, and are near the intersection of these stringers and the main vein. Another quartz vein lying to the NE is the Pione Log vein, which intersects the Mountain King vein between the 800 and 1,000 foot levels. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Local geologic structures: Deposit is near the Hodson Fault Zone that extends NW from the Royal Mine.

Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall length of 300 meters and an overall width of 120 meters. Developed by the 26 degree inclined, 1,300 foot Mountain King shaft with levels at 150, 200, 300, 400, 600, 800, 1,000, and 1,200 feet. Underground workings total more than 5,000 feet. The principal development work has been done on the 800, 1,000 and 1,200 levels. An open pit 75 feet deep was opened 800 feet SE of the Mountain King shaft and open cuts. Yuba Mining Division of Yuba Consolidated was to have conducted diamond drilling on the property to test the feasibility of open pit mining. Drilled by 8 holes up to 1,000 feet in depth in the hanging wall portion of the ore body in 1955-1956.
