Golden Crown is about two kilometres north north-west of the Nullagine town site, about the middle of the conglomerate goldfield, which contained several gold mines active from around 1888 to 1900. The area is presently heavily bulldozed by modern mining and exploration companies, destroying much of the old workings.

Nova Resources has been exploring the area from around 2014 to 2015. It states the conglomerate horizons are almost continuous across a 3 kilometre long belt, following the margins of a broad open syncline. This is cut by several small creeks, giving the deposit a cusp like shape, as it continues from one ridge to another.

Four prominent stacked reefs (horizons?) have been located at Golden Crown, 0.5 to 2 metres thick, less than 20 metres below the surface. Activity was found at the location up to 1898.

Novo has attempted to address these issues over the last six years of exploration, resource development and mining. The Beatons Creek open pit operation was the first Pilbara conglomerate-hosted gold deposit to go into production. Between January 2021 and September 2022, it produced 2.5 Mt at 1.2 g/t Au for 87,300 oz Au recovered. Gold is present within a matrix of multiple, narrow-stacked oxide and fresh (sulphide) conglomeritic reef horizons, which are interbedded with unmineralised conglomerate, sandstones and grits.

Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources of 260,000 oz Au (4.1 Mt at 2 g/t Au) reported within an optimised open pit shell at a 0.5 g/t Au cut-off [61]. An additional Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resource of 51,000 oz Au (0.5 Mt at 3.4 g/t Au) was reported within optimised underground stope shapes at a 1.7 g/t Au cut-off [61]. Some 70% of the resources by tonnes and 82% by ounces relate to the fresh (sulphide-rich) mineralisation.
