Carricks Mine is situated at the head of the Ireshope Valley 0.8 km (0.5 miles) SW of the village of Ireshopeburn. The mine was periodically worked during the mid to late 19th century first by the Beaumont Company and later by the Weardale Lead Company for lead ore, but returns were reportedly poor. Between 1880 - 1919 and again in 1940-1942 the mine was worked for iron ore from oxidized iron carbonates found in flats adjacent to several veins in the area. The main access to the mine was at Craig's Level (NY 8613 3794).
