A former Pb-Ag-Au-Zn-Cu mine located in sec. 31, T19S, R42E, MDM, 2.3 km (1.4 miles) W of Lookout City, N of Stone Canyon (8 air miles S of Panamint Springs), on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Argus Range Wilderness) (located claim). Discovered in 1885. Owned & operated by L. D. Foreman (99%) (1969). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is a replacement type deposit hosted in Pennsylvanian limestone. The ore body strikes N70W and dips 65N at a thickness of 10 meters, width of 50 meters and a length of 100 meters, and with a depth-to-top of 30 meters. The ore body is irregular. The primary mode of origin was hydrothermal. Primary ore control was lithology. Secondary ore control was faulting. The ore bodies are en echelon in the vertical plane, separated by near vertical faults. They are encased in an envelope of jasper, rich in Fe & Mn oxides, in limestone along flat faults which nearly coincide with bedding. Local alteration is dolomitization. Local rocks include Carboniferous marine rocks, unit 2 (SE California Carbonate Assemblage).
Local structures include faults.
Workings include underground openings. 2 adits were used as haulage ways. Intervening ground was developed from winzes and raises. Diamond drilling was conducted in 1952-1953 period and disclosed an ore body on an intermediate level, 30 feet by 100 feet by several hundred feet.
Comments on the production information: 1942-1952: Ore averaged 21.3% Pb, 12.7 ounces Ag/ton, 0.146% Cu, with some Au & Zn. All ore ran high in Mn & Fe.
