In 1925, Frank Gessner and Thomas Huffa discovered a gold deposit in remote country south-east of Lake Yindarlgooda. The Rising Sun Syndicate was formed, and they travelled to the find to peg neighbouring land. The syndicate consisted of veteran prospector John J. Smith, as well as D. Jessop, E. Jessop, George Bolton and James Turrell.
Upon arriving, they pegged leases, but soon abandoned them with no work done. Smith remained and prospected in the area, discovering a deposit he named the Rising Sun, 7 kilometres north north-west of Gessner's find.
It was described as two quartz blows, with a well defined north-south trending reef between, with diorite on one wall and soft schist the other. One of the outcrops was stripped down to 16 feet, revealing the reef 4 feet wide, containing gold, galena and pyrite.
Little appears to have happened after. No workings could be located, and has probably been little visited since.
