Taylorsville is a city and the county seat of Spencer County.

A series of road cuts on KY155 between the Jefferson County line and the city, and on KY44 between the city and near Taylorsville Lake State Park entry road. Roads are busy but have very wide shoulders for puling over. Fossil collecting is allowed and common, adopted by the Spencer County Tourism.

Strata from the Upper Ordovician, Drakes Formation on the north end, mostly Grant Lake in the uplands. Valley rocks have fewer fossils and no minerals.

Minerals occur as vugs in brachiopods and corals. Calcite in small scalenohedrons are dominant in the brachiopods. Dolomite in 1mm orange crystals less common. Celestine in colorless blades, often spanning the width of the brachiopod or radiating in longer crystals rare in corals. Barite in pinkish microcrystals are rare. Pyrite in microcrystals partially coats some fossils, like bivalves.
