Finnøy Municipality consist of several smaller and larger islands, covering a total land area of just above 100 km².
The geology is dominated by Sveco-Norwegian (1000MA+) amphibolites, gneisses, and mica schist.
The island of Ombo in the north east is partly covered by phyllites and mica-schists metamorphosed in the Caledonian orogeny (400MA).
