Pelerin is French for 'pilgrim'. The mine was developed by Armaud Debetaz from Switzerland. The Pelerin Gold Mine was very close to the small settlement of Birrigrin on the Sandstone-Wiluna Road, 15 kilometres south-west of the Montague Range.

It was a small but rich mine, Debetaz using his hard won fortune to make regular trips back to Switzerland. He had arrived in the district in 1904, at the beginning of the rush. The shaft was down to 145 feet, on a reef averaging 2 feet wide. It was rich down to 80 feet, but under this gold grades dropped off. A 5 head battery was erected in 1909, with ore being obtained from an open cut at this time.

By mid 1908 the mine had crushed 1765 tonnes of ore for 3867 ounces of gold worth at the time 15 776 pounds.

By 1910, it is reported little mining is taking place and the mill closed with Debetaz again in Switzerland. Armaud Debetaz died overseas on 28 September 1911, from a bacteria infection of the peritoneum, followed by typhoid fever he had contracted in Dieppe France.

A crushing by an un-named party was found for the mine in 1912, and the battery crushed for another lease in 1916, but little else was found regarding subsequent activity.
