The Caledonian is 1 kilometre south of the Montague Boulder gold mine, both were owned by Callaghan and Neelands (surnames). It was operational from 1905 to 1912. By 1909 the mine had produced 1043 ounces from 507 tonnes of ore. It was therefore a very rich small mine, but gold values after 1909 dropped off until the mine closed for this reason in 1912. 26 acres.
One source in 1906 states in was operated by Park and party, however it is unclear if they were tributers, or the original owners.
Water was a major problem at the mine, being met at only 26 feet down. It was however drinking quality fresh water. The reef was said to be 2 feet 6 inches to 3 feet wide. An option was taken over the mine for 6 months in 1907 by a Melbourne syndicate. Then in early 1908, a Perth syndicate showed an interest, but the option fell through.
In 1910, the shaft was being unwatered to 100 feet, and crushings are reported until 1912, by which stage gold values had decreased rapidly and the mine closed.
