The Vanguard Gold Mine is about 20 kilometres south-east of Sandstone, and just south of the Sandstone-Menzies Road. Little information found. It was active between 1911-1912 by Milling and party, on a shaft 60 feet deep. Some crushings occurred including one of 60 tonnes.
The site contains a small group of old workings. Estimated resource is 85 000 tonnes of ore at 2.3 g/t down to 60 metres below the surface. It was explored by Western Mining Corporation with eleven drill holes sometime before 1990, with mineralisation open at depth, and possibly along strike.
