Who is Mickey Doolan? That is a question I have not found the answer to. It is not the original prospector as that was Caleb James. As pure speculation, there was a famous American baseball player by the name Mickey Doolan, playing in the major league 1905-1918, which is around the same time the mine was opened. The site is now marked by a large open pit developed in the 1980's and 1990's. It is about 1.5 kilometres south-east of Meekatharra. The Phar Lap open pit is to its south, and Marmont/Fenian open pit to the north. The mine is located on the southern portion of the main Paddy's Flat lode.
Limited information was found, and appears to have always been historically a small lease, with intermittent activity. From 1907 to 1917 it was owned by Tom Ryan as part of the Marmont group of leases. It was sold locally at Meekatharra at auction in 1917, when Ryan went into receivership. Two shafts were then sunk the following year to 90 and 80 feet, but by whom is not mentioned.
All is then silent, although its likely prospectors operated the mine at times. In 1940, 11.50 tonnes at 13.63 ounces and 18.25 tonnes at 24.50 ounces are reported crushed.
