Erxleben Meteorit, Magdeburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Deutschland
Ordinary Chondrite (H6)
Fall, 15 April 1812; 2.25 kg
An afternoon fireball was observed, detonations heard, and a fine-grained meteoritic stone covered with a black fusion-crusted was recovered. Primary silicates, Fe-Ni metal, troilite, and a number of opaques have been reported. Erxleben is one of 11 German meteorite falls classified as an H chondrite.
What remains of Erxleben has been distributed in a number of places. As of 2000 the largest specimens were at the University of Göttingen (297 g) and the University of Arizona State (194 g).
