Forty Five Mine; Magus Mine; Lydia Pinkham Mine; Deu Pree Lode

The Forty Five was one of the largest producing mines in the Sultan Basin, credited with around 3000 tons of high grade ore before 1902. The mine had always been difficult to access. The ore was trammed down from the workings to Williamson Creek, then put onto a second tramway over Marble Pass to a siding of the Monte Cristo railway. Some ore was also transported over a long puncheon road down to Sultan. Around 4000' of workings were driven throughout several adits. While the grade was high, the mine lost a considerable amount of money overall due to the considerable expenses involved with developing access. Power to the mine and camp were provided by a pelton wheel which drove some small electric equipment and a compressor.
