Pallasite, Main Group (PMG)
Find, 1912; 104.3 kg
A mass was found on Ti-Tree Creek about 20 km NW of Canoblas. Olivine composition (Fa 11.5), nickel content of Fe-Ni metal (9% Ni), and oxygen isotopic composition indicate that Molong is a bona fide member of the 'main group of pallasites.' Pallasites consist primarily of subequal amounts of olivine and Fe-Ni metal which are believed to represent the disrupted core-mantle interfaces of ancient asteroids. The members of the 'Main Group' are believed to be a cohort of such fragments from a likely single such disrupted original parent body (OPB).
