Partially gemmy, deep blue to purplish single crystals and clusters of spinel crystals were offered for sale at the Munich Show in 2004 (Moore 2005) and at the Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines Show in 2004 (Larson 2004).

The locality given by Moore (2005) was "Beronomo, Tulear Province, Madagascar". Beronomo is probably a misspelling of "Beronono" ("where there is a lot of milk" in Malagasy).

Bayle & Gojou (2004) spell it as "Beronono", and Larson (2005) gives the locality as "Betroka, Madagascar".

Laurent (2008) reveals that the correct locality is located in Beraketa.
