Liboreiro is a small village, a rural locality near the town of Góis, about 2–3 km away — but with considerable geological and mining interest. It is situated in a mountainous area of the Schist–Greywacke Complex, at elevations of around 500 m.
Liboreiro is directly associated with the Senhora da Guia Mines, which are the main point of interest:
These are a group of tungsten (wolfram) mines, with mineralization occurring in quartz veins containing wolframite. There was intense exploitation especially during the 1940s (the period of the “wolfram rush”), linked to the context of the world wars and the high demand for tungsten. Mining activity ceased in the 1970s.
