Ribeira de Fráguas is a Portuguese village and the administrative seat of the Parish of Ribeira de Fráguas, in the Municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha. The parish covers an area of 26.75 km² (10.33 sq mi) and had a population of 1,494 according to the 2021 census. (Wikipedia)
The parish of Ribeira de Fráguas belonged to the former medieval judicial district (Julgado) of Figueiredo until 15 August 1514. From then until 24 October 1855, it formed part of the now-extinct municipality of Bemposta. On that date, it was incorporated into the municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha, to which it has belonged ever since.
During the second half of the 19th century, the mining industry became highly significant along the banks of the Caima River. The principal mining operations included the Telhadela Mining Company, the Lusitanian Mining Company (at Palhal and Carvalhal) and the Coval da Mó Mine, the latter located in the mountainous interior.
