An Au-Cu skarn deposit.
Two epidote-quartz-calcite-magnetite, fault-controlled ore-bodies: an Au-Cu skarn in the southeast and an Au-Co-Bi skarn in the northwest.
Part of a cluster of intrusion-related Au-Cu and distal Ag-Au-Pb-Zn deposits located within 12 km E to SE of the giant Golden Mile at Kalgoorlie. Also part of a larger genetic group including the diorite-hosted Boddington porphyry skarn deposit.
Located 12 km southeast of Kalgoorlie in the 2.7 Ga Eastern Goldfields Orogen of the Archean Yilgarn Craton.
Both skarns are believed to be the remnants of a single eroded body. They are 450 metres apart. Each shows different mineralogy. The south-east shows magnetite, rutile, hematite and Fe rich epidote, while the north-west skarn shows magnetite, rutile, ilmenite and lower Fe epidote.
The south-east skarn shows sphalerite, galena, and an un-named Ag-Bi alloy. Minor gold and electrum has precipitated together with chalcopyrite and pyrite. It also contains traces of hessite, tetradymite and aikinite.
Biotite is only found on the north-east skarn front. Fluid cooling and reduction has caused the deposition of pyrite, minor cobaltite, native gold, and bismuth minerals leading to large scale enrichment of gold and bismuth. The skarn shows abundant bismuth sulfosalts including krupkaite, pekoite, junoite, felbertalite, nuffieldite and cosalite, and tellurosulfides including joseite and aleksite.
Since the above was written, two small open pits have been developed in the immediate area. If the pits mark the skarns, then possibly they are south-west to north-east from each other.
