Giacimento ferrrifero di Monte Foraoro (Malga Fondi), Caltrano, Provincia di Vicenza (Vicentino), Veneto, Italia
Traces of old workings with a little dump at about 1325 m a.s.l. on the eastern slope of Monte Foraoro, in front of Malga Fondi.
The small iron deposit, probably exploited in the second half of the 17th century, is located in an area where carbonate rocks of the Monte Zugna Formation (Lower Jurassic) crop out. The dumped iron ore consists of rusty microcrystalline masses, sometimes appearing as tubular concretions. X-ray powder diffraction analyses showed that this material is made of goethite (60%) and lepidocrocite (40%).
