Lacroix (1922) describes dumortierite and lazulite from "near Soavina". The Soavina area with dumortierite-kyanite-lazulite bearing metaquartzites is situated about 25 km just north of the town Ambatofinandrahana in the central highland of Madagascar. One of the lazulite and dumortierite localities near Soavina is Marofarafara.
