Köppen climate type:
A northerly sub-basin of Lop Nur Lake. The basin hosts a large potash deposit, which was discovered in 1995. It consists of twelve thin layers of almost pure polyhalite and polyhalite-bearing rocks, which are buried at depths of 10-38 m within an area of about 326 km2. There also are porous glauberite rocks, which retain KCl-rich brines, and minor deposits of solid potassium salts.
