Super-large Mississippi valley type (MVT) lead-zinc deposit, hosted in siliceous dolomite and chert of the Early Cambrian Yuhucun formation.
The deposit has been discovered in the 1950s. Mined since the end of the Ming Dynasty.
The Lehong Pb-Zn (Ag) deposit, which contains 2.4 Mt of metal resources (Pb + Zn + Ag) at a grade of 20 wt% Pb + Zn, is situated in the Sichuan-Yunan-Guizhou (SYG) Pb-Zn metallogenic region on the southwestern margin of the South China Block. The stratigraphy, from bottom to top, includes the upper Ediacaran Dengying Formation, consisting of gray-white, medium-thick bedded siliceous dolostone, which serves as the primary ore-bearing stratum of the deposit. The Cambrian strata are predominantly gray-white dolostone with occasional interbeds of siltstone and mudstone. The Ordovician strata are mainly composed of mudstone, sandstone, and dolostone.
Three ore bodies have been identified in the Lehong mining area, located within the NW-trending fault zones of F1, F2, and F3, respectively. Orebody I has a length of 840 m, a width of 1.00–4.28 m, and a thickness reaching up to 125 m. The total Zn + Pb resources exceed 0.4 Mt, with ore grades of Zn ranging from 2.11 to 18.26 wt% and Pb from 0.18 to 1.85 wt%. Orebody II is the largest and most economically valuable orebody in the Lehong mining area, distributed in lens-shaped, stratiform, or vein-like formations parallel to fault planes. Orebody II has a length of 2,060 m, a width of 1.84–29.08 m, and a thickness reaching up to 282 m. The total Zn + Pb resources exceed 2.0 Mt, with ore grades of Zn ranging from 0.8 to 30.80 wt% and Pb from 0.04 to 15.57 wt%. The total metal reserves identified in the Lehong mining area amount to 2.4 Mt (Pb + Zn + Ag), with ore grades ranging from 1.30 to 44.40 wt%, averaging 19.57 wt%. Pre-Ore Stage dolomite (Stage I), the Ore Stage dolomite (Stage II), the Post-Ore Stage dolomite (Stage III) and the Cu Stage dolomite of the Lehong Zn-Pb deposit.
