Phil Sheridan Mine
A silver mine near the old townsite of Sheridan. The ore consisted of brecciated country rock cemented by quartz and calcite. Due to the lack of many visible ore minerals the ore had to be assayed to follow. Total production is estimated to be between $60,000-$100,000.
Structure: The Toroda Creek Graben Is A Volcano-Tectonic Depression, Which Resulted From East-West Extension During The Eocene (Holder And Others, 1989).
Deposit: A 50-ton/day flotation mill was built in 1918. Most adits have headings of n35e. The vein was mined from several levels over a vertical distance of about 500 feet and along strike for about 400 feet. Geology: The ore is in altered and silicified volcanic rocks of the eocene klondike mountain formation. (the geology here is similar to that described for the american flag mine).
Rock formation(s): Klondike Mountain Formation
Ore(s): Silver Minerals Occur In A Series Of Closely Spaced, Silicified And Pyritized Shear Zones In Altered And Silicified Andesites And Dacites. Brecciation Of The Rocks Accompanied The Shearing, And Clasts Of The Breccia Have Been Considerably Altered And Silicified By Hydrothermal Solutions. The Main Vein Is 1-7 Feet Wide, Strikes N20e, And Dips 50nw. During Mining Operations It Was Necessary To Closely Assay The Vein Material In Order To Establish Borders Of The Ore Shoots (Moen, 1980, P. 72).
