4th of July Mine


This silver mine is located near the crest of Ruby Hill, 1/2 mile north of the Arlington Mine.

It was located in 1887

It worked a vein said to average 6' in thickness with an ore streak 18"-24" in average width.

Development includes a 500' double compartment shaft and a 200' single compartment shaft with several levels mined.

It produced a shipment of high grade ore in 1889, shipments totaling $36,000 were made until 1893 when the mine closed. Hand-sorted shipments were made from 1958-1964, and 1967.

It produced specimens carrying native and wire silver.


Structure: Small Faults Parallel And Oblique To The Vein

Commodity: HIGH-GRADE AG ORE PRODUCTION IN 1889-1893, 1958-1964

Deposit: Minerals are concentrated in a 2 ft section of the vein that parallels the hanging wall.

Geology: Geol.desc: parts of vein highly sheared

Ore(s): Vein Parallels Granodiorite-Gneiss Contact That Is Sveral Hundred Ft To The West Of The Site.
