DeMark (1980):

"The Red Cloud copper mine is on the west side of the forest road and was originally mined for lead, copper, silver and gold. All that remains of the original mine workings is a fenced vertical shaft and the mine dumps. Access to the underground workings is not possible. The host rock for the ore is a fractured sandstone breccia. The minerals discussed in this article were all recovered from the dumps."
