Called by Weibye (1848) as "der sogenannten Aatangens-grube"(the socalled Åtangens mine). An old iron mine is known from this area (see map in Green, 1956)

Known as a locality for amphibole ("hornblende"). Located close to the shore, not far away from the headland. General coordinates for the Åtangen area are 58.86625°N, 9.3445°E. Coordinates on Mindat are approximate.

A large cavity, 0.5 m in diameter, with diopside crystals with overgrowth of amphibole ("hornblende") and actinolite were found in 2002 (Nordrum 2002).

'Hornblende Root Name Group' ?
Formula: ◻Ca2(Z2+4Z3+)(AlSi7O22)(OH,F,Cl)2
Description: Reported as crystals of hornblende without any analysis. The term "hornblende" (sensu lacto) have been given by collectors and scientists as a field term for greenish-black well-crystallized amphiboles from the Kragerø- district since the 1820s. It is probably actinolite, cfr. RRUFF Project Specimen ID: R050336, see https://www.mindat.org/photo-310469.html
Hydroxylapatite
Formula: Ca5(PO4)3(OH)
Description: According to Nordrum et al. (2010) the white apatite found in Kragerø area is hydroxylapatite in composition
Magnetite
Formula: Fe2+Fe3+2O4
Quartz
Formula: SiO2
'Scapolite'
