Alpine cleft system on the northern slope of Cima del Piano della Casa (2480 m), at the northwestern end of the ridge Cima de Cessole-Cima Maubert-La Madre di Dio.

The large cleft systems consists of an array of fissures, generally striking N20E to N25E and dipping 70-75NW, lined with variously coloured quartz crystals: hyaline, pale and dark amethyst, and smoky. The crystals have always very small or absent prism faces and often show non-uniform colour distributions, being the darker colours concentrated around the vertices and along the edges. Some amethyst crystals are so dark in colour to resemble the Brazilian ones, although the white granite matrix make them easily distinguishable from the latter.




Note: the locality name "Madre di Dio", a 2800-m-high peak located to the southeast, is sometimes used to indicate quartz specimens from this occurrence.
