The Hanson Aggregates Ardmore Avenue Quarry is one of several quarries that have produced aggregate in the Fort Wayne area of Allen County during the past 150 years. Mining at the current site on the southwest edge of town was begun in the early 1950s by the France Stone Company. For many years thereafter, the site was operated by the May Sand and Stone Company until the quarry was recently purchased by Hanson Aggregates. Today, the quarry is expansive and mines limestone from multiple formation on multiple levels.

Rocks are of the Salina Group comprising the mid-Silurian Louisville Limestone and mid- to late Silurian Wabash formation.
