Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

Mammoth Mine; Shamrock Mine

A polymetallic mine west of Nighthawk. The ore occurred as a shallowly dipping quartz vein in granite. A nearby skarn zone contained mineralization as well. It was developed by 2 shafts, 3 adits, and several open cuts. 20 cars of high grade ore were produced from 1918-1921, and 600 tons were milled in 1939.
Structure: Small Fault

Commodity: PRODUCTION 1918-1921; 600 TONS MILLED IN 1939.

Deposit: Sulfides are in ribbon-like bands parallel to the walls with minor values in erratic specks and bunches scattered throughout the quartz. Scheelite is concentrated in vein near its walls. 11 claims including: silver queen, shamrock, mary, chopaka, daniels, alice, and ollie.

Development: Shafts, adits, and open cuts.

Geology: The south extension of the vein carries into schist, where it is quite well mineralized. On ridge crest east of the main adit there is a vein set n5-10w, dipping 25-30w, to 48 inches wide; this set is offset 6ft by a fault (n30w, 65e). At southernmost workings there is a vein 6 ft thick (n30w, 30sw).

Rock formation(s): Similkameen Composite Pluton
Kobau

Ore(s): Near Marginal Contact Of The Granodiorite And The Same Roof Pendant Of Hornblende-Mica Schist
