Quartz vein-type tungsten deposit, hosted in pre-Devonian metamorphic sandstone and slate.

The vein systems of the Shangping W deposit are named according to their location and orientation. The North Group consists of 3 ore bodies. Individual veins are generally 500 m in length, with a maximum of 580 m, and vertically, wolframite-bearing quartz veins are 200–550 m in depth, with the width of individual veins fluctuating between 0.5–1 m. The middle group of mineralization is the largest, consisting of 6 ore bodies. Only the No. 1 ore body and its branches 1–1, 1–2 and 1–3, with a total length of 950 m, have retained reserves. The South Group consists of 4 ore bodies, which are small in size. The veins in them tend to extend horizontally by 400 m and to a depth of 260 m.

Notes:
(1) Shangpin is a mis-nomer.
(2) The USGS circular cited below lists an erroneous grid reference for this locality.
