The Wind Creek Quarry provides most of the gravel for logging operations in the Mill Creek forest area near Buell(sp?), Oregon. Several layers of basalt are presently being mined for gravel. (as of Oct 1, 2007) The basalt contains many small vugs and fractures lined with stilbite, quartz, calcite and several other species of zeolites. Larger cavities of crystals can be found in the lower portion of the quarry, the lower basalt is very decrepitated, crumbly and loose. Watch where you walk, you may kick a rock over and discover a 4"x4" cavity lined with velvety quartz and spiky calcites! I did. :)
