The Groverake mine is located between the villages of Rookhope and Allenheads and is connected underground with the nearby Frazer's Hush mine. Though not a major specimen producer, the Groverake mine was the leading producer of commercial fluorspar in Weardale during the 1980s and 1990s. The mine closed in the summer of 1999. Much of the site was demolished in 2005, though the two headframes were left standing. Scrap thieves have since removed one of them.
