A former Fe occurrence/mine, on private land. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 1,000 meters.
There are two ore banks, originally on the land of Joseph Benson, which were worked until 1890. At that time they were owned by Daniel M. Reese, and worked for him on royalties. One bank is 300 feet by 100 feet, and the other, just to the southeast, 200 feet by 60 feet. A road cuts through part of the larger ore bank.
Local rocks include rocks of the Potomac Group, including Raritan and Patapsco Formations, Arundel Clay, and the Patuxent Formation.
