In syenite gneiss.
Two corundum occurrences have been opened up by several workings in the southern part of lot 25, concession XIX, Raglan township, which are reached by an overgrown wagon road. One is 1,200 feet and the other 2,000 feet north from the road that runs southeast from the bridge over the Madawaska river in lot 24, concession XVIII. (ARV53)
History
The deposit was discovered in 1901 by Corundum Refiners Limited and prospected until 1906. The Canada Corundum Company continued prospecting in 1907. The Hamilton Corundum Company prospected the property in 1913. The Manufacturers Corundum Company took over the property in 1915 and set up a 100 ton mill in 1916. Production was reported in 1917 and 1918; mining was carried out during the winter months; the property has been inactive since 1918. About 8000 tons of ore was treated producing 325 tons of graded corundum (Satterly 1945, p.27).
