Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

One of the most notable mineral occurrences at this locality (although it is found is other locations throughout the Arkaroola region), is the 'Nailhole' Quartz. Many suggestions have been put forward as to what the parental mineral was, which the quartz has grown around, before latter dissolving, leaving the 'Nailhole' appearance on the underside of these specimens.
Of all the minerals suggested, laumontite appears to be the most likely, both the cross section and the termination casts match those of laumontite. It is suggested, if people wish to list this on their labels, they list laumontite.
Other candidate precursor minerals such as gypsum and calcite have all but been discredited for various reasons.

Mount Gee was named in honour of Lionel Carley Egremont Gee, a Justice of the Peace, who held various Government positions, among them being General Assistant and Recorder, Department of Mines, South Australia. He is credited with the writing and compilation of several government publications and books. Including co-authoring 'Record of The Mines of South Australia, 4th ed.', which used the notes from the inspections made by the Government Geologist, H.Y.L. Brown.

A rugged area on Arkaroola Station with highly vuggy deposits riddled with quartz-filled vughs, with some large and fascinating specimens found, usually iron-stained.
