Köppen climate type:
Sandstone-type uranium-germanium deposits, hosted in a sequence of Miocene continental sedimentary rocks (alternating sandstone, conglomerate, grit, and siltstone with interbedded lignite seams) within the intermontane Mengwang basin. Germanium is adsorbed to organic matter (lignite and asphaltum; 93%) and carbonaceous sandstones (7%); no distinct germanium minerals have been observed (Hu et al., 2009; Dahlkamp, 2009).
Discovered during the 1950s.
The coals of the Lincang deposit are enriched in Ge, As, Sb, W, Be, Tl, K, Rb, Nb, Mo, Sn, Cs, and U. The Ge source is likely the muscovite-containing granite.
