Abandoned tungsten mine with extensive intact underground workings, although portions had to be filled in when the nearby Shing Mun reservoir road tunnels were excavated. Mineralization occurs in quartz veins, and elluvially. Peak production was achieved during the Korean war, when the price of tungsten was high. (Needle Hill, at 532 meters elevation, is the 33rd highest mountain in Hong Kong.)

(During the Korean war, about 5,000 people worked veins and placers for tungsten at several sites in the New Territories, of which Needle Hill was the most important. Many of the other sites were worked in primitive unregulated fashion, causing extensive stream pollution and hillside erosion, which led the Hong Kong government to start regulating mining.)
