A large and now abandoned china clay pit lying to the west of Bugle village and bounded on the southern side by the road between Roche and Stenalees.
As the pit expanded in the 20th century it encompassed a number of smaller china clay works including Old Beam clay works, Imperial Goonbarrow, East Goonbarrow, West Goonbarrow, North Goonbarrow, Caudledown, Cleaves, South Caudledown and Rock Hill clay works.
The pit also encompasses several zones of tin (and tungsten) mineralisation, with the tin being exploited by mines that largely pre-dated the china clay operations. Probably the most well known of these older tin mines was Old Beam Mine.
