Cerro de la Sal, el Pinós, Alacant, Comunitat Valenciana, España
"Cabeçó de la Sal" is a hill of diapiric origin made up of red clays and marls with Triassic algeps, Keuper facies. It belongs to the internal Pre-baetic and is located to the south-east of the town of el Pinós, in the Vinalopó valleys. Its peak, 893 m high, rises about 300 m above the surrounding territories. In this diapir, a deposit of rock salt is exploited by dissolution: water is injected under pressure through drilling, and the brines are recovered, which are subsequently degassed and decanted to remove the insoluble particles. These brines are then led, along a 50 km conduit, to the Torrevella salt works, where the salt is obtained by evaporation. The safe reserves of the deposit amount to 344 million tons, and the probable ones to 688 M Tm.
