Ophiolitic rocks around the village of Boccassuolo.

Gallitelli (1929) reported the presence of datolite in the ophiolitic rocks forming the spur called Grotto del Campanile, on which the Boccassuolo bell tower is situated.

The name Boccassuolo is often used to indicate:
- the entire area of the so-called Boccassuolo ophiolite or better the Cinghi ophiolites (Cinghi di Boccassuolo), that crop out mainly on the right side of Dragone stream in the area of Poggio Bianco Dragone (905 m a.s.l.) and Cinghio del Corvo (1075 m) to the north, northeast, and east of Boccassuolo, including also the copper-bearing mineralisations mined from the 14th to the 18th century and in the period 1936-1942 (see Dragone Valley mines);

- Cinghio del Corvo ophiolite (formerly known as Cinghi di Vetta) only, located above the road connecting Palagano to Boccassuolo. It includes Cinghio del Corvo quarry (874 m; coordinates 44.29557265120902 N, 10.626613050699234 E). Cinghio del Corvo (Cinghio di Vetta) outcrop, which prominently emerges from the surrounding clay soil, is bordered at its foot by Fosso del Frolaretto, not far from the Pelagano-Boccassuolo road. It mainly consists of dark green to black serpentinite; green lithologies with stockworks of magnetite veinlets are also present. Locally the serpentinite is fragmented or brecciated, and veined and impregnated by carbonate veins (ophicalcite).

Typical minerals of the Cinghi di Boccassuolo ophiolite are baryte, datolite, prehnite, calcite, albite, epidote, quartz, and sulphides (chalcopyrite, pyrite, galena, and sphalerite).

Note: most if not all of the mineral photos uploaded as from Boccassulo are referable to specimens collected in the Cinghi ophiolites (Cinghi di Boccassuolo) area.
