Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Quartz vs. Asagiite
It's a classic vs a newbie as the most common named mineral in the crust Quartz is up against an exceedingly-rare sea foam-green mineral discovered just a few years ago Asagiite.

Commodities (Major) - Marble - Dimension
Development Status: Past Producer

This small quarry, one of 2 shown in the immediate area by Parker (1968), is more important geologically than mineralogically. Both quarries were in low grade metacarbonate rock interpreted by Hebert, et al (2010) to be a “cap carbonate”. “Cap carbonate” rocks occur at the top of glacial sequences and mark the end of a glacial episode. In the Goose Creek area the marble immediately underlies the basal flow of the Catoctin basalts. The onset of Catoctin volcanism has been dated at 571 mybp.

At this quarry pillows of basalt pushed downward into the carbonate mud. Some carbonate, incorporated into the basal few inches of the basalt was more intensely metamorphosed than the carbonate that was simply overridden. Reaction rims in carbonate masses within the basalt contain grossular and several other minerals.
