Named in honor of Dr. Halil Sarp (b. 1944 Turkey), mineralogist, Department of Mineralogy, Natural History Museum, Geneva, Switzerland. He described over thirty new minerals, especially from France and Turkey. He named the mineral chantalite for his wife.
