Colour:
Light green-blue
Lustre:
Vitreous
Hardness:

Crystal System:
Monoclinic
Name:
Named in honor of I. David Brown (b. 11 April 1932, Edgeware, Middlesex, UK) British-Canadian crystallographer and professor at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Brown is well known for developing Bond-Valence Theory used by mineralogical crystallographers worldwide.
New structure type. Unique combination of elements (compare rowleyite, though). Chemically somewhat similar to thebaite-(NH4), relianceite-(NH4) and dendoraite-(K): other oxalate-phosphate minerals. The first vanadium-bearing oxalate mineral (compare relianceite-(K)). The first approved organic vanadium mineral.

Interference Colours:
The colours simulate birefringence patterns seen in thin section under crossed polars. They do not take into account mineral colouration or opacity.
Michel-Levy Bar The default colours simulate the birefringence range for a 30 µm thin-section thickness. Adjust the slider to simulate a different thickness.
Grain Simulation You can rotate the grain simulation to show how this range might look as you rotated a sample under crossed polars. Each grain retains its interference colour (retardation) while its brightness falls to black at extinction and reaches a maximum between extinction positions.
