Its name honors the Italian mineral collector Marzio Mamberti (b. 1959) for his contribution to the knowledge of the Sardinian mineralogy.
Structurally related to gelosaite. The fourth recognized Bi-Mo mineral.

Structure details/elements:
- [8]Bi-centred polyhedra
- five independent Mo-centred octahedra, only two of these are fully occupied
- two kinds of (101) layers alternating along [101]*:
* comprising Bi-centered polyhedra and two partially occupied Mo4 and Mo5 sites,
* comprising zigzag chains along c with the fully occupied Mo1 and Mo2 sites and the partially occupied Mo3 site.
