Name:
Named in honor of Academician Nikolay (Nick) Vladimirovich Sobolev (Николай Владимирович Соболев) (28 May 1935 - 25 March 2022), in recognition of his important contributions to mineralogy and petrology. See the caption of his photo for more details about him.
The most structurally complex and Cl-rich copper selenite chloride known so far (2013). Chemically related minerals include chloromenite, georgbokiite, and parageorgbokiite.
There are eight independent Cu sites, comprising both [5]Cu and [6]Cu. Copper forms O4Cu13 tetramers built of four corner-sharing OCu4 tetrahedra. The tetrahedra are surrounded by two independent selenite triangular pyramids, thus forming {[O4Cu13](SeO3)4} complexes || [210] and [−210]; these complex units are connected to form ladder-like layers, perpendicular to a. Cl anions link these layers in the [100] direction.
